Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know as you begin your therapy journey.

Who can benefit from your services?

We work with adults experiencing communication, cognitive, voice, or swallowing challenges due to conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, head and neck cancer, or general age-related changes.

What happens at the first appointment?

Your initial session includes a thorough evaluation of your speech, language, voice, cognition, and/or swallowing function. We review your medical history, discuss your goals, and create a personalized treatment plan designed specifically for your needs.

How long does therapy usually take?

Therapy duration varies depending on the nature and severity of your condition, your goals, and how often you attend sessions and practice at home. We will give you a clear timeline after your initial evaluation and update it as you progress.

Do I need a doctor’s referral to begin?

A referral is helpful—especially for insurance purposes—but not always required. We can guide you through what is needed based on your individual situation and coverage.

Do you offer teletherapy or virtual sessions?

Yes. Many conditions can be effectively treated through secure virtual sessions, depending on your needs and insurance coverage.

Is speech therapy covered by insurance?

Coverage varies depending on your insurance plan and diagnosis. Some clients use in-network benefits, while others are reimbursed for out-of-network services. We encourage you to check your benefits, and we’re happy to provide the documentation you need.

What can I do at home to support my progress?

Consistent practice is essential. You will receive targeted home exercises and strategies to help reinforce progress between sessions, and we will adjust them as your skills improve.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?

Please notify us as early as possible if you need to make a change. We follow a cancellation policy to ensure availability and maintain consistent progress for all clients.

How will I know when therapy is complete?

Therapy concludes when you’ve met your goals, regained functional communication or swallowing skills, or reached a level where continued improvement can be maintained independently. We make this decision together based on your progress and needs.

Do you work with caregivers or family members?

Absolutely. Caregiver involvement can make a significant difference in recovery. We provide education, training, and support so families can continue to encourage progress at home.

What types of disorders do you specialize in?

We specialize in adult speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing disorders, including aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia, dysphagia, memory impairments, and voice changes from injury, illness, or overuse.
